Who we are, and Our Story!

At the core of CatScapes are Aaron Feldman and Trevor Thorpe who started out as cycling buddies in high school, roommates in college, and who went on to practice Marriage & Family Therapy and Family Law, respectively. Their friendship and professional collaborations have extended 35 years.
Aaron is an award-winning composer who earned a master’s degree in music composition and theory from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York.

His study and practice of musical composition informs how he designs and composes in physical space.

Meanwhile, his career as a therapist emphasizes somatics (the connection of emotions and physicality). This specialized education, training, and experience along with his plain and simple life-long love of cats influences his detailed attention to how cats position themselves, move, and engage with each other and in their environment.

In addition to extraordinary talent in the realm of law and a good mind for business, Trevor brings to Catscapes a knack for engineering along with a highly informed and innate gift, sense, and passion for design.

Thanks to the combination of their long-standing connection and different ways of thinking about and approaching tasks and objectives, Aaron and Trevor's collaborations involve thoughtful and lively interactions that yield rich, multi-layered results, of which CatScapes Cat Shelves is a perfect example.

Our cats of the past and present are ever our mewses. We would be remiss not to introduce our inspiration...and test pilots: Boris, Annabelle, and Arlo.
Our Story...
Cat shelves, Wall-mounted Cat Tree, floating cat shelves, modern cat furniture, cats playing
Arlo was climbing the walls long before we put up the first shelf. Arlo means "guardian", and he was given that name because he always seemed to be looking out for his then little brother, Boris. He gravitates towards high places where he can monitor anything and everything that transpires in his environment.

Boris is less interested in the catscape - until he catches a case of the "zoomies", at which point the distinction between floor and wall evaporates and he careens faster than our cameras have yet been able to capture.
Annabelle was the biggest surprise. She seemed perfectly content and very happy prior to the catscape, but as the shelves went up, she was always the first one to try them out. She's also the most enthusiastic climber and will even climb carpeted ramps upside-down. People often comment on how chubby she seems, but when she's in action, it suddenly becomes apparent that she's mostly muscle, grateful to have opportunities to be utilized.

Watching the three cats find various forms of satisfaction on the catscape prompted us to realize that this might be more than merely creative and fun. We've come to believe that catscapes are important for the optimal emotional and physical well being of cats who spend much if not all of their life indoors.

At the same time, we appreciate the aesthetic and practical challenges inherent to designing and installing a catscape. Cracking the code of elegance, adaptability, and feline engagement has been our focus ever since.
